Abstract

|
Propose : This study is a qualitative research focusing on Ho-Sang experiences of elderly women. The study was conducted to understand the meaning and the essence of the lived experience of Ho-Sang of elderly women.
Method : This study adopted a hermeneutic phenomenological method. The method of inquiry included the following: Turning to phenomenon of interest; Inquiring the investigating experience as it was lived rather than as conceptualized; Reflecting and analyzing essential themes which characterize phenomenon; Describing phenomenon through art and literature. The participants for the study were 11 elderly women who indirectly experienced Ho-Sang. They are in the age group of over 65 years and currently residing in Gwang Ju, Korea. The interview question was "Would you tell me your experience of Ho-Sang?".
Result : Through this process, the following 8 essential themes and sub-themes of the experience emerged. "Died a natural death", which has the following sub-themes; Died a natural death, Lived long for more than 80 years, "Was Blessed of one"s children", which has the following sub-themes; Had many children, Children succeeded in life, Children were devoted to their parents, "Lived a wealthy life", which has the following sub-themes; Lived in plenty, Left a fortune to offspring., "Lived a healthy life", which has the following sub-themes; Did not catch a virulent disease, Took care of oneself., "Made a virtue", wihich has the following sub-themes; Gave a warm heart around, Was recognized as a good person by people, Did one"s humane duty, Got rid of greed., "Did one"s duty", which has the following sub-themes; Performed one"s duty, Set a good example for one"s children, Left the world after one"s husband die first,"Was Prepared for dying", which has the following sub-themes; Cleaned up own things and prepared oneself, Left a will, Waited for a time to die, Greeted a death at home, "Died easily without pain", which has the following sub-themes; Died without pain, Died easily as if sleepy.
Conclusion : This study clarified the essence of conquest experiences by understanding the meanings and the natures of those from the view of elderly women who experienced Ho-Sang. The result stated above suggests the direction of nursing in death-bed in the view of elderly women and their family members who should live preparing for death. Also, it offers base materials for the substantial nursing intervention developing and application.
